Golden Globes 2017: Jimmy Fallon Pokes Fun at Mariah Carey After Teleprompter Fails

The host makes fun of Mimi's botched performance at the 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' while joking about the teleprompter that broke down at the beginning of the show.

AceShowbiz - It has only been a few minutes since the 2017 Golden Globes officially kicked off. However, host Jimmy Fallon already faced a big problem as the teleprompter suddenly malfunctioned. Luckily, the late-night TV host managed to handle it like a pro.

Fallon openly admitted to the audience that there was an issue with the teleprompter and he promised he could always do impressions. "Welcome to the Golden Globes. Already the teleprompter is down. This is a great way to start the show," Fallon said in front of the A-listers in the crowd.

"I can do impressions. What do we do here? I can think of something. Cut to Justin Timberlake, please. Just wink at me or something," he continued joking. After the first break of the show, and after the organizers brought in another teleprompter, Fallon once again addressed the technical mishap, this time while poking fun at Mariah Carey's disastrous New Year's Eve performance.

"I just got off the phone with Mariah Carey and she thinks that Dick Clark Productions sabotaged my monologue," he said. He also made a "Game of Thrones" reference and took a dig at President-elect Donald Trump, adding, "A lot of people wondering what would it be like if King Joffrey had lived. Well, in 12 days we're going to find out."

The 2017 Golden Globes is underway at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The annual event opened with a "La La Land"-themed musical number featuring Fallon and a bunch of his friends including Tina Fey, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams and, of course, Justin Timberlake.
