Robbie will reprise her role as the pigtailed anti-heroine in the all-female DC supervillains movie, with the 'Suicide Squad' director returning in the helmer chair.

AceShowbiz - Margot Robbie is reuniting with her "Suicide Squad" helmer David Ayer for a Harley Quinn spin-off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress will reprise her role as the pigtailed anti-heroine in the movie which will focus on "the top female villains from the DC stable," with Ayer returning in the helmer chair.

Details about other villainesses and the plot of the upcoming movie which is called "Gotham City Sirens" are still scarce. In a comic book series from DC titled "Sirens", the story centers on popular female anti-heroes from Batman's rogue gallery, including Quinn, the Dark Knight's sometime love interest Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Warner Bros' has yet to set a release date for the project, but the studio puts it on a fast track. Set to pen the screenplay is Geneva Robertson-Dworet (an untitled Tomb Raider reboot, "Sherlock Holmes 3"). Robbie will also executive produce. Meanwhile, Ayer will serve as a producer in addition to directing, once again teaming up with DC Films bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.

Robbie made her debut as Joker's love interest in "Suicide Squad", which grossed a massive $745 million worldwide even though it received underwhelming reviews. The Australian actress is expected to film the Harley Quinn spin-off next summer after she finishes filming her Tonya Harding biopic "I, Tonya".

In addition to "Gotham City Sirens", the studio is developing a "Suicide Squad" sequel. But it's unclear if Ayer will return as a director. The 48-year-old helmer is currently filming "Bright", a fantasy thriller for Netflix which stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
