Shawn Mendes begs for 'Mercy', Joe Jonas' DNCE shows 'Body Moves' and Green Day rocks the show with their new single 'Bang Bang'.

AceShowbiz - Bruno Mars knew how to get the party started at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards. The Grammy Award-winning singer opened the show held in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Sunday, November 6 with his new single "24K Magic".

Rocking a stylish Hilfiger Jeans sweat suit, crispy white sneakers and a fitted "XXIV" cap, he delivered the title track of his forthcoming album. He brought the crowd on their feet as he and some backing singers showed off their moves.

The Weeknd also performed live that night, singing "Starboy" that helped him reinvent himself. Clad in an-all black outfit, he showed off his impressive vocals as he performed with the backdrop of a star-emblazoned half dome. The Weeknd won Best Video for "Starboy" visuals at the EMAs.

Shawn Mendes, who was named Best Male at the awards event, delivered an emotional rendition of his hit "Mercy". He began the song as a somber piano ballad in a four-side cube of projections. The Canadian singer poured his heart out as he sang in front of the microphone toward the end of the song.

Joe Jonas' band DNCE pumped up the crowd with "Body Moves" and "Cake by the Ocean". They performed on a steel paltform suspended from the ceiling.

Green Day, meanwhile, delivered a rocking out performance with "Bang Bang", their newest single. Billie Joe Armstrong and co. were awarded with Global Icon at the MTV EMAs.

Justin Bieber was the biggest winner at the event, bringing home three awards. The Canadian pop superstar was not present at the show.
