'Deadpool 2' to Start Filming in January 2017 Despite Major Setback

Fox and Ryan Reynolds will reportedly begin filming on the 'Deadpool' sequel early next year in Vancouver, even though a new director hasn't been announced to replace Tim Miller.

AceShowbiz - "Deadpool 2" may begin its production soon despite the fact that the movie suffered a setback after Tim Miller's exit. While 20th Century Fox and the lead actor/co-producer, Ryan Reynolds, have yet to announce Miller's replacement, a new report has surfaced suggesting that principal photography will kick off in the next couple of months.

If Canadian production site What's Filming is to believe, filming on the "Deadpool" sequel will begin next year in January in Vancouver, British Columbia. With the newly-reported start date, fans have speculated that the studio is close to finding a new director. No official announcement has been released. As of now, "Deadpool 2" still lacks two major characters, Domino and Cable.

Back in August, the studio and Miller allegedly considered Kyle Chandler to take the role of Cable. However, it was reported last month that the casting of Chandler was one of the reasons why Reynolds wanted Miller to depart from the project. He didn't agree with Miller's casting choice, and it led to the studio taking its marketable star's side which prompted Miller to quit.

Following Miller's departure, Fox and the Merc with a Mouth depicter eyed several candidates as a new helmer, and it was "John Wick" co-helmer David Leitch who became the studio's favorite to replace Miller. Other contenders included Drew Goddard, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for his writing efforts in "The Martian", and Magnus Martens ("Banshee", "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.").

"Deadpool 2" is still set for a U.S. release on January 12, 2018. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who were the scribes of the first movie, return to provide the screenplay for the sequel.
