Movie

Evans plays Frank, a single man who raises his gifted niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) and plans a normal school life for her.

AceShowbiz - Fox Searchlight Pictures has unleashed the first trailer for Marc Webb-directed drama "Gifted". The heartwarming trailer sees Chris Evans as Frank Adler, a single man who raises his math-genius niece Mary (Mckenna Grace).

In the 2-and-a-half-minute video, Frank is seen trying to "give her a normal life" like he promised his late sister. One scene shows him being drawn into a custody battle with his mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) after she discovers her "potential" granddaughter can do advanced calculus.

"I'm raising her how I believe Diane would've wanted," Frank tells his mother. "You're gonna loan her out to some think tank where she can talk non-trivial zeroes with a bunch of old Russian guys for the rest of her life."

"Gifted" follows Frank Adler, a single man who raises a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary in a coastal town in Florida. Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother Evelyn whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.

Written by Tom Flynn, the movie is set for an April 12, 2017 release in U.S. theaters. It also stars Octavia Spencer as Roberta, Frank and Mary's landlady and best friend, and Jenny Slate as Mary's teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.
