The 33-year-old model and the pro dancer are reportedly getting close after they were introduced by his brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Amber was partnered with Maks in the current season of "Dancing with the Stars", where Val is also competing alongside celebrity contestant Laurie Hernandez, so Amber and Val were likely to interact with each other on the show before she was eliminated last week.
"They met through Maks and really like each other," a source tells PEOPLE, adding that the two could be a budding couple. "It's very new, but it's going well." While another source close to Val claims the two are "just friends," they were seen cozying up to each other in some snaps they shared from Amber's birthday bash.
In one picture, Kanye West's ex-girlfriend was puckering her lips as if she's going to kiss Val who sat next to her. Val was putting his arms around Amber's waist while looking up to the ceiling adorned with balloons in another image.
She captioned another image featuring her and Val simply with "@iamvalc" and a heart emoji. Val's brother Maks was among the guests at the birthday celebration.
