The Republican nominee made jokes about himself and even poked fun at his wife Melania's speech before calling Clinton 'corrupt' and said she was 'pretending not to hate Catholics.'

AceShowbiz - Donald Trump got booed at the Alfred E. Smith charity dinner in Manhattan on Thursday night, October 20. The event is traditionally held every four years to allow two presidential candidates to take a break from their rivalry and show off their comedic side, but the Republican nominee drew outrage when he went too far with his comments about his opponent Hillary Clinton.

At first, Trump entertained the crowd of about 1,000 people with jokes about himself. He even poked fun at his wife Melania Trump's convention speech which turned out to be a rip-off of a Michelle Obama speech from a few years earlier.

"I really have to say the media is even more biased than ever before, ever," said Trump. "You want the proof? Michelle Obama gives a speech and everyone loves it, it's fantastic, they think she's absolutely great. My wife Melania gives the exact same speech and people get on her case. And I don't get it."

He also made some light jokes about Clinton, which the former FLOTUS also laughed at. "We have proven the we can actually be civil to each other," he continued. "In fact, just before taking the stage Hillary accidentally bumped into and she very civilly said, 'Pardon me.' And I very politely replied, 'let me talk to you about that after I get into office.' "

However, the crowd became uncomfortable when Trump called Clinton "corrupt" and said she was sitting there "pretending not to hate Catholics." He said, "Hillary is so corrupt she got kicked off the Watergate commission. How corrupt do you have to be to get kicked off the Watergate commission?"

After getting booed by the audience, Trump turned to Clinton and told her, "I don't know who they're angry at, Hillary, you or I."

Clinton also took some shots at Trump during her time on the stage. "Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a four. Maybe a five if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair," she said. "Come to think of it, you know what would be a good number for a woman? 45."

She also made fun of Trump's use of teleprompters and his ties to Russia. "[Teleprompters are] hard to keep up with, and I'm sure it's even harder when you're translating from the original Russian," she joked.

She concluded her speech, saying, "I hope you enjoyed my remarks tonight, I said no to some jokes that I thought were over the line. But I suppose you can judge for yourself on Wikileaks in the next few days."
