AceShowbiz - It's officially a wrap for "Girls". Lena Dunham and the crew of the HBO comedy completed the filming of the last season on Thursday, September 29 and it was a bittersweet moment for the actress as well as her co-star Allison Williams.
Williams, who had finished filming her scenes on Wednesday, returned to the set on the final day of shooting. In a picture posted on Dunham's Instagram account, the two forced a smile after sobbing for 45 minutes.
"Last pic of the night- @aw stayed until the bitter end like the queen she is. This is what 45 minutes of sobbing followed by me forcing a selfie on Allison looks like," Dunham captioned it, "Goodnight. I love you all. I love the smell of the fall air. I love the rustling leaves, the city lights coming into view as I ride home and I really f***ing love absolutely everyone I hugged tonight."
Dunham also shared a photo of her crying face. "It's 2 am on Friday morning and we just finished shooting Girls. Forever," she began her lengthy message accompanying the picture. "To say I don't enjoy goodbyes is an understatement. But, as a wise woman once told me, 'relish it. We so rarely get to choose our goodbyes.' She's right."
She thanked fans in another post, writing, "You have blown our minds. You have made a big scary world seem small and intimate and I see blessings and safe havens everywhere because of the way you've normalized these experiences, the moments of being female that feel dark and unruly, that hurt like a gash. You've made me believe there was a place for the strange girls and the ones who don't know how to love quite yet."
Dunham took a photo with the female producers on the show and didn't forget to thank other crew members. "Thank you @shihanfey for always being there with an umbrella, a cup of tea and a brilliant smile. You wrangle the actors on this show like an expert zookeeper and you never break a sweat," she wrote.
The day before, Williams bid farewell to her character while sharing a photo of her tightly hugging Dunham on the set. She wrote, "Marnie has officially gone wherever all characters go when we stop watching them. And I couldn't feel luckier that I got to play her. This lady, @lenadunham, gave me everything. She gave me the most incredible challenges and adventures and the opportunity to know and love our GIRLS family. She also gave me her fierce friendship, wit, love, and loyalty, all while making me giggle on a constant basis."
