The actor's lawyer Marty Singer calls Cathriona White's husband Mark Burton an 'opportunist' and accuses him of being the late make-up artist's 'sham' husband.

AceShowbiz - Jim Carrey's team has responded to the latest shocking allegations made against him by his ex Cathriona White's husband. After Mark Burton mentioned in his amended suit that the actor gave the late make-up artist STDs which led to her suicide, Carrey's lawyer issued a statement denying those "desperate, bogus" claims.

"The claim that Mr. Carrey gave Cathriona White an STD is categorically disputed," said lawyer Marty Singer, who went on to point out that Burton was White's "sham" husband and said they only got married so White, who's from Ireland, could stay in the U.S.

"This is a desperate, bogus claim made by the 'husband' of the sham marriage," Singer continued, "My client will not pay money to end this opportunist's transparent shakedown lawsuit, and this malicious case will be dismissed."

As previously reported, Burton filed a lawsuit against Carrey earlier this month, claiming that the actor helped provide the drugs that killed White last year. In the amended lawsuit, he stated that Carrey gave White Herpes Type I, Herpes Type 2 and Gonorrhea which made her feel like "damaged goods."

"Mr. Carrey has suffered a great deal in the last year with the suicide of the woman he dearly loved, and it is outrageous that he should be subjected to this predatory lawsuit," Singer concluded the statement.
