George R. R. Martin says 'there's a wealth of material' to be written about Westeros, but David Benioff and D.B. Weiss nix possible involvement in a 'Game of Thrones' prequel.

AceShowbiz - Since there's only two seasons left before "Game of Thrones" is over, we can't help but expect that the tale will continue in a form of spin-off or prequel. Met at the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as well as author George R. R. Martin talked about the possibility of a "Thrones" prequel.

"You might want to ask George about that," said Benioff, referring to Martin who attended the awards show with them. He added, "It's a great world that George created. It's a very rich world. I'm sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it."

Responding to the same question, Martin said, "I do have thousands of pages of history of everything that led up to 'Game of Thrones'. It's a wealth of material, and I'm still writing more." He paused, before adding, "At the moment, we still have this show to finish and I still have two books to finish, so that's speculation."

Speaking of the upcoming seventh season of "Thrones", Weiss gushed, "It will be bigger. And it will be better. And it will also be worse, but mostly better."

"Game of Thrones" returns with the shorter new season in summer 2017. The show won big at the Primetime Emmys, nabbing the Outstanding Drama Series for the second consecutive year.
