The helmer says that he gives Karen Gillan 'a chance to shine' as Nebula in the second 'Guardians of the Galaxy' film, claiming that she is 'completely a much deeper character.'

AceShowbiz - James Gunn discusses what to expect from "Guardians of the galaxy Vol. 2". In a reaction video posted on Facebook by Vin Diesel moments after watching the footage of the film on Friday, September 2, Gunn reveals what the second "Guardians of the Galaxy" film is about. Gunn said that he gave the female characters "a chance to shine" in the upcoming film.

"I really feel like we give the female characters a chance to shine in this movie," the helmer said. "Because Zoe Saldana comes in and she is so wonderfully beautiful as her character [Gamora]. It's touching. And Karen Gillan as Nebula comes in, and she's her sister, and she's completely a much deeper character than we got in the first movie, so we get to know her."

Diesel, who lends his voice to Groot in the film, added, "That character, the sisterhood that you explore in this movie is something we haven't seen in film. We definitely haven't seen it in this level of film," before Gunn went on to explain, "And that's one of the things that this movie is about. The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family."

The director elaborated, "And what's harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it's being a family. That's where you really haven't to deal with each other. And that's what this movie is about. And they are sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister."

In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Michael Rooker are also set to reprise their roles as Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, Drax, the voice of Rocket and Yondu respectively. Other cast members include Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Tommy Flanagan and Sylvester Stallone.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" hits U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017. Set to the backdrop of "Awesome Mixtape #2", "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.
