The Batman prequel series will feature 'a forerunner of Harley Quinn' and 'a proto Killer Croc version' in future season, while the origin of the Joker will be further addressed in season 3.

AceShowbiz - "Suicide Squad" members are also coming to "Gotham". Executive producers Ken Woodruff and John Stephens said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that the show would feature "a forerunner of Harley Quinn" and "a proto Killer Croc version," though not necessarily this season because the characters were just featured in the "Suicide Squad" movie.

"A lot of those [DC Comics] characters, because they're in 'Suicide Squad', you're not going to be seeing them this season," Stephens said. "We'll be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters. We'll see a proto Killer Croc version. And we'll be seeing a character, perhaps not this season but in times to come, who can be a forerunner of Harley Quinn which will be fun."

Harley Quinn is portrayed by Margot Robbie, while Killer Croc is played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in the movie.

Speaking of villain's origin, "Gotham" has started to lay the groundwork to introduce the person who will later become Batman's nemesis the Joker since season 2. The EPs said that the Joker mythology would continue to evolve this year and beyond.

"We really imagined developing the myth of the Joker at the same time as we develop the myth of Batman," said Stephens. "We really wanted to stretch that over multiple seasons. So in the course of this year, we're going to see how the cult of the Joker, started at the beginning of last year, is going to extend and deepen and change this year."

He added, "We have these underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented and how he's going to come back, setting the stage for perhaps, if Fox gives us a season four, hopefully we'll bring that back in a much bigger way and you'll see these other versions of the Joker myth with Jerome and with other characters."

Of what the third season would be about, Stephens said, "In season three you're really going to see how villains have taken up residence inside the city. The villains have become more and more a part of the fabric of the city of Gotham. It's less and less a police show like it was in season one. It's a natural continuation of that in season three."

This season will also see Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) adopting his "playboy persona." Stephens shared, "We're going to see Bruce descend into that world a little bit. He's going to begin in this season having to dig himself out of this big hole and at the beginning of season 4 he'll find himself in very dire circumstances."

Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney will return in the first two episodes of the season, "and then she goes away for a little while plotting as always to return," Stephens teased, adding, "We hope to see her return in the second half of the season."

The show will additionally feature an older version of Poison Ivy played by Maggie Geha. First look at the new Poison Ivy has been revealed in a photo (via TV Insider) and a promo video for the new seasons of "Gotham" and "Lucifer".

"Gotham" returns Monday, September 19 at 8/7c on FOX.
