As a former teen a while ago, who's made a few choices along the way, I'm here to tell you you and your choices matter," he said, adding that he learned "to respect all people on the basis of their character, not what they did for a living or the color of their skin."

He continued, "I try to live my life working most closely with, making music with, and spending so much of my time with an amazing group of people - male, female, gay, straight, every walk of life. We are all different, but that does not mean we all do not want the same thing."

"I ask you to learn not from my example but from all the greats who came before me," he said, giving shout-outs to Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, Elton John and Al Green. "We can be part of the solution, and not part of the problem," he said, before concluding, "Go on and become the greatest generation yet."
