'Supergirl' Finds Its Maggie Sawyer in Floriana Lima

The 'Mob Doctor' star is confirmed to play the openly-gay detective in the next season of the DC superhero series.

AceShowbiz - "Supergirl" is adding another new member for the upcoming season 2. Floriana Lima ("The Mob Doctor", "The Family") is announced to play Maggie Sawyer, the out-and-proud lesbian cop who is expected to be a recurring character in the sophomore set.

The other new additions to the DC superhero series include Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, Lynda Carter as President of the United States and Ian Gomez's Kara's (Melissa Benoist) new boss. More new names are expected to be announced as Lex Luthor's sister Lena and a new leading man are rumored to be added to the mix.

The second season will launch Monday, October 10 at 8 P.M. ET on The CW. A sneak peek at the new outing will be offered at San Diego Comic-Con next week. "Supergirl" will have a panel on Saturday, July 23 in Ballroom 20 while Benoist will be in Hall H to talk about "the power and privilege of playing women that redefine the rules and refuse to yield."
