FOX has handed out a put-pilot commitment to the Marvel action-adventure series with 'Burn Notice' creator Matt Nix set to pen the script.

AceShowbiz - Another "X-Men"-themed series is in development at FOX. While FX is preparing to launch "Legion" based on a character on the Marvel Comics, its sister company has now handed out a put-pilot commitment to a new "X-Men" TV series.

The currently untitled action-adventure series will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

"Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix is set to pen the script. The series will be a joint production between 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television. Nix will also serve as executive producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg as well as Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

"Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network - and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe," Fox Entertainment president David Madden said in a statement. "There's comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series."

Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, added, "Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project. Matt's a huge fan of 'X-Men' and his take on the 'X-Men' universe, with its rich characters and high-stakes adventure, is exactly the show we want on FOX. It's a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique."

FOX had been trying to bring mutant superheroes to the small screen by developing "X-Men"-themed drama "Hellfire" last year, but the project was scrapped after Evan Katz and Manny Coto who oversaw it exited to work on "24: Legacy".

Meanwhile, "Legion" starring Dan Stevens as David Haller has been picked up to series by FX and is expected to premiere in 2017.
