Justin Timberlake Attacked by Twitter Users for His Comment on Jesse Williams' BET Awards Speech

People slam the 'SexyBack' singer for his perceived hypocrisy after commenting on Williams' moving speech about how much Black Lives Matter at the prize-giving event, but what did he really say?

AceShowbiz - What started out to be an innocent-sounding tweet has turned into a hot debate on Twitter. On Sunday, June 26, Justin Timberlake complemented on Jesse Williams' moving speech about how much Black Lives Matter and how people have been exploiting their culture while not respecting the persons. The "Can't Stop the Feeling!" singer tweeted, "@iJesseWilliams tho...#Inspired #BET2016."

People, however, take issue with Timberlake's comment because many have perceived him as an artist who has appropriated black culture yet not showing concern about the Black Lives Matter movement. "inspired to do what? Continue to emulate black culture through your music while ignoring issues affecting black people?" @chrystallll wrote.

"Did you like the part when Jesse talked about white people stealing from us? That should resonate with you," @sockruhtese also tweeted in response to the former NSYNC member's comment. @MrErnestOwens also wrote, "So does this mean you're going to stop appropriating our music and culture? And apologize to Janet too."

Timberlake then posted this in response to the latter tweet, "Oh, you sweet soul. The more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation. Bye." But his "we are the same" remark only enraged some black people. "So you get judged by the color of your skin too?" @DubOnDaBeatz asked him rhetorically.

Another Twitter user, @RawanOG, chimed in, " 'we are one' rhetoric is problematic cause it silences the experiences of marginalized groups & I dont think Justin Timberlake realizes that." @britneyvibes echoed the statement, "Justin Timberlake is literally the definition of white privilege. Who is he to easily say 'we are same' & dismiss opressed group of ppl?"

Some people, however, think that Timberlake did nothing wrong with the "we are the same" remark. @ThereGoTerry posted, "Justin Timberlake didn't do nothing to y'all but show support and y'all angry asses just had to flex for no reason.. Smh.. Evil asses." @PilotTalkPeyt also tweeted, "Y'all really hating on Justin Timberlake for saying we are the same?"

The 35-year-old singer has taken to the micro-blogging site to respond to the backlashes. "I feel misunderstood. I responded to a specific tweet that wasn't meant to be a general response. I shouldn't have responded anyway...," he wrote.

He explained in another tweet, "I was truly inspired by @iJesseWilliams speech because I really do feel that we are all one... A human race," and then apologized "to anyone that felt I was out of turn." He added, "I have nothing but LOVE FOR YOU AND ALL OF US."
