Movie

The 'Dumb and Dumber To' star is set to exec-produce and topline the horror movie based on Steve Neils' novel of the same name.

AceShowbiz - While "The Bad Batch" starring Jim Carrey is in completion, the actor has landed another eerie role. The "Dumb and Dumber To" actor has been chosen to lead a horror movie adaptation "Aleister Arcane" which will be directed by Eli Roth for Amblin Entertainment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carrey will not only star in the upcoming adaptation but he will also serve as an executive producer, with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films producing alongside Michael Aguilar. Jon Croker ("The Woman in Black: Angel of Death") will pen the script. The adaptation was initially set up at Paramount in 2004, but the rights lapsed.

Adapted from a novel of the same name by Steve Neils which was published in 2004, the story revolves around a Los Angeles weatherman named Aleister Green who returns to his hometown to host a midnight horror show. Under the guise of a mad scientist named Aleister Arcane, Green performs little skits until the local sponsors balks at the gore. An incident with two kids leads to him to be put on trial, breaking his spirit and into an early grave. Not long after, grisly activities begin to occur and only the kids have the power to thwart the curse he has laid upon their town.

The upcoming project will be Roth's next horror film, following 2002's "Cabin Fever", the "Hostel" franchise, 2013's "The Green Inferno" and 2015's "Knock Knock". The director will also direct Bruce Willis in MGM's remake of "Death Wish". As for Carrey, he is also serving as an exec-producer on Showtime's upcoming series "I'm Dying Up Here". He will next be seen in crime drama-thriller "True Crimes".
