'Prometheus' Star Noomi Rapace Returns for 'Alien: Covenant' After All

Noomi Rapace, who took the lead role in the first installment of the 'Alien' prequel trilogy, has signed up to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw in the 'Prometheus' sequel.

AceShowbiz - Noomi Rapace is back to "Alien: Covenant". The actress, who played the female lead character Elizabeth Shaw in "Prometheus", is on board the sequel, according to Deadline. Sources say she is currently on the Australia set of Ridley Scott's film to shoot weeks worth of scenes.

It was long reported that Rapace would not be back for the next installment of the "Alien" film franchise, although the story ended with Shaw becoming one of the few survivors. She was the one who most likely would follow the adventure forward with Michael Fassbender's David.

The film also stars Katherine Waterston as Daniels, the mother of the series' original heroine Ellen Ripley. Other cast members include Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup and Demian Bichir.

"Alien: Covenant" will become the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with "Prometheus" and connects directly to Scott's original "Alien". The film is set to be released in U.S. theaters on August 4, 2017.

The story takes place on a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. The crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
