'Doctor Strange' director Scott Dirreckson and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' helmer James Gunn hint at Marvel's return to San Diego Comic-Con this year.

AceShowbiz - Marvel's panels have become one of the main attractions at San Diego Comic-Con for years, but the studio did not attend to the convention last year. However, according to new tidbits on Twitter, it looks like Marvel will return to the annual pop cultural event this year.

"Doctor Strange" director Scott Derrickson and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director James Gunn teased fans about attending the event. Derrickson posted on Twitter a picture of the upcoming movie alongside the event's banner on Friday, June 10, hinting that Marvel would return to Comic-Con.

Shortly afterwards, Gunn replied to Derrickson's tweet, indicating that they would be returning to the event this year.

Marvel chose to not attend last year's event because the timing wasn't right for them, sources said. As "Ant-Man" was scheduled for release the week after the event and "Captain America: Civil War" was still in production, the presentation and footage wasn't ready at the time.

With "Doctor Strange" already in post-production and set to come out in November, and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" nearing its completion, Marvel will have plenty of footage and information to share.

In addition, Marvel is in pre-production of "Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Black Panther", "Captain Marvel", "Avengers: Infinity War" and more. It makes Comic-Con the perfect place to give quite a presentation and to announce official casting and attachments for those films.

San Diego Comic-Con will be held on July 21-24 at San Diego Convention Center.
