AceShowbiz - "The Conjuring 2" easily wins at the box office with an estimated $40.4 million. The sequel to "The Conjuring" becomes the largest North American opening for a horror film since its predecessor's release in 2013.
Unfortunately, big-budget video game adaptation "Warcraft" debuts in second place with an underwhelming $24.4 million. The film, however, performed incredibly well overseas. It earns a whopping $156 million in China, bringing its foreign tally to $261.7 million and global total to $286.1 million.
Actor Jackie Chan commented on "Warcraft" success in China during Shanghai Film Festival. " 'Warcraft' made 600 million RMB ($91 million) in two days - this has scared the Americans," he said, "If we can make a film that earns 10 billion ($1.5 billion), then people from all over the world who study film will learn Chinese, instead of us learning English."
Jon M. Chu's magic caper sequel "Now You See Me 2" nabs the third place in North America with around $23 million. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" lands in fourth place with an estimated $14.8 million, while "X-Men: Apocalypse" rounds out the top five with an estimated $10 million.
