CMT Music Awards 2016: Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton Among Early Winners

Little Big Town has also been added to the winner list, taking home the Group Video of the Year for their hit 'Girl Crush'.

AceShowbiz - The 2016 CMT Music Awards has officially started at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Carrie Underwood and Chris Stapleton who led the nominees with three nods each were among the first acts added to the winner list.

Underwood bagged the Female Video of the Year for her "Smoke Break". She won the award over the likes of Cam ("Burning House"), Jana Kramer ("I Got the Boy"), Kacey Musgraves ("Biscuits"), Kelsea Ballerini ("Dibs") and Maren Morris ("My Church").

Receiving the award from Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum and Rob Riggle, the "American Idol" alum thanked fans, the CMT, her label, her team and Randee St. Nicholas who directed the music video. She additionally gave her "baby" Mike Fisher a shout-out, telling him she loved him.

Stapleton, meanwhile, took home the Breakthrough Video of the Year for his "Fire Away". Taking his trophy from Little Big Town, he thanked UMG Nashville, the actors in the video, the video director and his fans for everything they've done for him and his family.

After performances from Thomas Rhett, who did his current No. 1 hit "T-Shirt", and Cam, who teamed up with Fifth Harmony for her "Mayday" and the group's "Work From Home", Little Big Town returned to the stage to collect the Group Video of the Year Award for "Girl Crush".
