The writers have been working and the staff continue preparing for filming the next season in Scotland.

AceShowbiz - There seems to be no break for "Outlander" crew. In order to please fans of the hit TV show, the writers and some staff members in Scotland have continuously worked to prepare for the recently greenlit third season while the second season is still airing on Starz. And due to their relentless works, we may not have to wait too long for season 3.

"We get excited when we get just a back-nine pickup, so two seasons was unheard of," producer and writer Matt Roberts tells The Hollywood Reporter about their reaction when learning that the show has been ordered for a third and fourth season. "We're very excited. Just from inside information, yes, we knew we were going to do season three for sure."

As a consequence, he adds, "We haven't stopped working, and we just went straight over from season two to season three. We carried the writers room over and a few people in Scotland continued to prep for next season. 'Outlander' is a beast of a show to produce, so if we took a normal break, a regular hiatus like a normal show, we would already be behind."

And the best news is, "now the fans can have it sooner than what they think. The Droughtlander won't be as long as they expect," Roberts promises.

Lord John Grey (played by Oscar Kennedy on the TV series) who was introduced in the latest episode has become a main character of his own spin-off book series. Asked if there's a possibility that the character will get his own TV show, Roberts says, "Oddly enough, we always joke about spin-offs, whether it's Lord John or Black Jack [Tobias Menzies] or this person or that person, because there is just so much material. [Author] Diana [Gabaldon] gives us so much in the books that you can probably make 10 series and the fans would watch it all."

Though so, he adds, "We haven't really discussed it seriously if we could do that, but that would be something for Starz to order before we could start talking about it seriously."

"Outlander" airs Saturdays at 9/8c on Starz.
