The 'Room' actress is reportedly in early stage of negotiations to star in Marvel's upcoming project centering on Carol Danvers.

AceShowbiz - Brie Larson might be Marvel's favorite to play Captain Marvel after winning Oscar Award for Best Actress in "Room". According to Variety, the actress is in talks for the lead role in its upcoming "Captain Marvel", the first movie to center on a female superhero.

Marvel Studio's President Kevin Feige said that the studio had been looking for female filmmaker to guide this female-centric film to its success. According to some sources, Niki Caro ("Whale Rider") and Jennifer Kent ("The Babadook") seem to be strong contenders for the helmer post. Feige also stated that "Guardians of the Galaxy" co-writer Nicole Perlman and "Inside Out (2015)" co-writer Meg LeFauve were writing the movie script.

Captain Marvel is the alter ego of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The character is expected to make her debut in the upcoming film "Avengers: Infinity War", which will begin filming next year under the direction of "Captain America: Civil War" helmers Joe and Anthony Russo.

Larson surely reached a new level in her career by winning an Oscar Award last February. As for playing a lead role in Marvel's movie, it would give her the opportunity to show her wide range of acting skills and skyrocket her to the status of an international movie star.

Despite being well known for her dramatic work, this would be her first lead role in a superhero movie. She has landed a major role in the forthcoming "Kong: Skull Island" opposite MCU's stars Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson.
