The CW series introduces Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) in the first season finale, as exec. producer Marc Guggenheim confirms that Hawkman and Hawkgirl will not have a significant presence in season 2.

AceShowbiz - After the death of Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is losing two more members. In the first season finale, Kendra Saunders a.k.a. Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) and Carter Hall a.k.a. Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) decide to retreat and start a new life together, after the team defeated Vandal Savage once and for all.

While Hentschel was booked as a recurring guest star, Renee was a series regular in the freshman run of the series. Does this mean Renee won't be returning for the upcoming season 2? Co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim has confirmed that Renee and Hentschel won't have a significant presence in season 2.

"We went through the team, made a list of all the characters and started to think of stories for them. When we got to Hawkman and Hawkgirl, we had trouble coming up with stories. The bow was tied so tightly and neatly with their story in the finale, that everything we thought of felt very forced. After 4000 years, they were no longer under the specter of Vandal, and we felt they need some time off. Bringing them back to the team as soon as the the beginning of season 2 felt premature," he explains.

Renee says she just knew about Kendra's send-off when she read the script, but she thinks that "it makes sense." Asked whether she would return if she's asked to, the actress says, "Yeah, I mean it definitely depends on what's going on in my life. This show has really opened up a lot of opportunities for me and allowed me the freedom to start doing a lot of the writing that I've wanted to work on and starting my own production company. Yes, I would totally love to embody Hawkgirl again, but I'm also happy to be doing other things as well."

Although losing Hawkgirl and Hawkman, the Legends may have found a new ally in Patrick J. Adams' character Rex Tyler, who was revealed to be Hourman in the season finale. "He's not just Hourman, he announces himself as a member of the Justice Society of America," Guggenheim tells EW.

This way, the show opened the door for the arrival of the JSA in season 2 as the EP confirms, "We're planting a big flag that season 2 of 'Legends' will not only feature the Legends of Tomorrow, but also the JSA."

The presence of JSA will be very needed by the Legends since they will battle a villain who is even more evil than Vandal. "I will say literally the threat that Vandal Savage posed it's going to seem small in comparison," Guggenheim teases. "That's not even hyperbole, and you know I'm prone to hyperbole. People will be saying 'Vandal who?' by the time the big bad of season 2 is fully explored or fully revealed."
