Demi Lovato on Feud With Taylor Swift: I Don't Get Along With Some Women and I'm 'Fine'

'I'm not going to stop saying what I believe in. I have no problem standing up for myself,' the former Disney star says while addressing the feud over Swift's support to Kesha.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato is perfectly okay with the fact that she's not getting along with Taylor Swift. Opening up about their feud in a new interview with Refinery29, the former Disney sweetheart said she she stood by comments she made about Swift after the "Shake It Off" singer chose to support Kesha (formerly Ke$ha) by donating money.

"There are women that I don't get along with, and that's fine," Lovato said. "My thing is, don't brand yourself a feminist if you don't do the work. I have an immense amount of respect for women like Lena Dunham ... or [Beyonce Knowles], who make amazing political statements through their work."

As fans have known, Lovato slammed Swift after news broke that the latter donated $250,000 to support Kesha, who's been trying to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke's label. "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed," the "Heart Attack" hitmaker tweeted back in February.

As a result, Lovato received quite backlash for her comments. Fans thought supporting Kesha amid her legal problem with Luke, and not trying to impress the 23-year-old singer, was what mattered. While clarifying her remarks, Lovato later said that "[she tends] to get fired up about the things I believe in" and her passion caused her "to say things that I probably shouldn't say."

However, she didn't appear to regret what she said about Swift as she went on telling Refinery29, "I'm not going to stop saying what I believe in. I have no problem standing up for myself. Maybe I got it from growing up in Texas, but I never took s**t from anybody."

"Now I know how to do it without pushing people away," she added. "You just don't approach things with a F**k You mentality. Instead it's: This is the way I'm perceiving things. There's nothing wrong with my beliefs or feelings. So let's agree to disagree, or let's just disagree."
