Kim Kardashian to Accept the First-Ever 'Break the Internet' Award

For creating a new kind of celebrity and often shaking the internet world with her ventures, the reality show star will be honored at Webby Awards.

AceShowbiz - Kim Kardashian's huge social media presence just led her to an award. It was announced on Wednesday, May 11 that the reality show star will be honored with the first-ever Break the Internet Award at the 2016 Webby Awards on May 16.

"It would be difficult to underestimate the importance of Kim Kardashian West's impact on the Internet," the press release said. "As the leading celebrity in terms of her online presence and understanding of how to connect with a global audience via social media, apps and online video, Kim has set the standard incredibly high."

The 35-year-old has 69.7 million followers on Instagram and 45.3 million on Twitter. She also appeared in the infamous "Break the Internet" Paper magazine cover and owns the multi-million dollar "Kim Kardashian Hollywood" app on top of her "Kimojis" and website Kimkardashianwest.com.

The statement went on gushing that she has "created a new type of celebrity" and that her "preternatural sense of being in the public eye, sees her appearing at seemingly every major cultural moment, most notably, her support of Caitlyn Jenner's sex change."

The statement continued, "Likewise, with her suite of apps including the latest, Kimoji, which skyrocketed to the top of the most-downloaded list, Kim has expanded her celebrity into new territories and, safe to say, to a high degree of success as well."

The award will be handed out by tech writer Kara Swisher on Monday. Fans can watch the show later in the week via WebbyAwards.com and Xfinity X1.
