AceShowbiz - Daisy Ridley is going to take on a Shakespearean story in her next feature film. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actress has been tapped for a new "Hamlet" version called "Ophelia". She is joined by Naomi Watts.
The film is adapted from Lisa Klein's young adult novel inspired by William Shakespeare's classic. While the original story follows Hamlet, the Danish Prince, seeking revenge on his uncle, Claudius, who murdered his father, this new take focuses on Ophelia, the daughter of Claudius' chief advisor who falls for Hamlet.
Ridley is expected to portray the titular role while Watts is tapped for the role of Queen Gertrude. Claire McCarthy will serve as a director. "Set in the 14th century but spoken in a contemporary voice, Ophelia will put the titular character center stage," producer Daniel Bobker explains.
