AceShowbiz - TV networks are honoring Prince following the sudden passing of the iconic singer on Thursday, April 21. Immediately after the sad news broke, MTV abandoned its scheduled programming to pay tribute to the "I Wanna Be Your Lover" hitmaker with his music videos.
The network schedules two airings of Prince's 1984's rock musical "Purple Rain" at 7:10 P.M. and 12:30 A.M. In between those two airings, MTV airs more music videos from the span of the musician's career. The channel also changes its logo to purple for the entire day.
"MTV is heartbroken and in utter disbelief at the news that the world has lost Prince Rogers Nelson so suddenly and so before his time," reads a statement released by the network. "Prince was a once-in-a-lifetime artist who transcended every medium and genre he touched and created music with a passion and individuality that inspired multiple generations. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends and millions of fans."
VH1 is also paying tribute to Prince with a similar programming block that will last through the weekend.
Prince was found unresponsive in the elevator of his Paisley Park Studios apartment in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning. The cause of death is still unknown as police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey and Madonna were among some public figures who have paid tribute to the late singer.
