"Back to Normal" airs Tuesday, April 26 at 8/7c on The CW.

In the latest episode that aired April 19, we finally learned of Zoom a.k.a. Hunter's tragic past. As a child, he watched his father kill his mother and ended up being raised in the foster care. He grew up to be a serial killer and was incarcerated. He received electroshock therapy in prison and when the particle accelerator exploded he got his powers.

As to how Zoom killed himself, who at the time was still known to Barry and friends as their ally Jay, the episode offered an explanation. It turned out he had gone into the past and convinced another version of himself to join his plans, allowing Hunter to kill his other version in front of Barry and Co.

Teddy Sears who plays the villain also explains this, "Essentially, Hunter goes back in time to convince another version of himself to go along with this plan as a sociopathic, charismatic convincer would. He gets him to go along with this. He recruits himself to take part in his plan. There's a bit more to it than that, which will unspool in future episodes."

Sears also dishes on how the Zoom reveal affects his relationship with Caitlin, who initially knew him as Jay. "After the reveal, she is repulsed by him. She wants nothing to do with him. Shockingly, Hunter doesn't quite understand why, which is also fun. 'What do you mean?' He's a bit misguided, and he's very broken," he says.
