AceShowbiz - The arrest of "Trailer Park Boys" star Mike Smith on Friday, April 1 was followed with much drama. Smith was taken for suspicion of misdemeanor but his alleged victim came forward to say that she was never in danger and that police mishandled the arrest.
"Mike and I did indeed have a heavy argument but it saddens me the way things are being reported and the way it was handled by the police," Georgia Ling said Saturday in a statement. "At no point did I feel I was in danger, otherwise I would've called the police myself, which I did not."
In the earlier report, Ling was reportedly throttled in a bathroom at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. A bystander heard a woman saying, "You're choking me." Witnesses also said they saw Smith pinning the woman against a bathroom wall before she emerged with a ripped shirt and no pants.
Ling said she was quarreling with Smith inside the room and others present outside were "mistakenly" concerned about the escalating argument. Smith was arrested at around 1:15 A.M., booked on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and released hours later on $20,000 bail.
"When the officers arrived I tried to assure them there was no real issue, but they proceeded to arrest Mike," Ling added in her statement. Smith himself also released a written statement to deny any physical altercation. "Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute. That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanor charged against me," he wrote.
But the harm is already done. Lucy DeCoutere who plays Lucy on the show tweeted Saturday, "If I find out that somebody is abusive, I cut them out of my life. it's very easy." She added a few hours later, "I have resigned from Trailer Park Boys."
