The New Zealand-born actor has dyed his hair red as filming for the CW pilot is currently underway in Vancouver.

AceShowbiz - As production has begun on The CW's live-action take on Archie Comics, first look at KJ Apa as Archie Andrews has been revealed. The 18-year-old New Zealand-born actor dyed his hair red to portray the central character in "Riverdale".

He was spotted with his new look in Vancouver, Canada, where filming for the pilot is currently underway, on Saturday, March 19. Stepping out solo, he donned a coordinated outfit which consisted of a black T-shirt, a red plaid shirt and a leather jacket.

"Riverdale" also stars Camila Mendes as Archie's love interest Veronica Lodge, "Beverly Hills, 90210" alum Luke Perry as Archie's father Fred, Lili Reinhart as Veronica's love rival Betty, Cole Sprouse as Archie's slacker friend Jughead Jones, Ashleigh Murray as Josie of Josie and the Pussycats fame, and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom.

The show will explore the surrealistic twists of small-town life, in addition to the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade. It would also be a "bold, subversive take" on the love triangle among Archie, Betty and Veronica.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writes the pilot, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers. The CW has not handed out a series order for the TV adaptation.
