Oscars 2016: The Academy Tries to Fix Racial Diversity Issue With Stacey Dash
Celebrity

Dash has shared a prewritten blog post to address her awkward cameo at the Oscar ceremony after confused viewers were wondering why the 'Clueless' alum showed up on the stage.

AceShowbiz - Chris Rock wasn't done tackling the racial diversity issue at the Oscars after his opening monologue. After the show played spoof of this year's Best Pictures nominees "Joy", "The Revenant" and "The Martian" to point out how hard it is for black actors to land lead roles in movies, the host showed up to introduce Stacey Dash.

"The Academy has taken steps to fix this problem. And that's why it's my honor to introduce the new director of our minority outreach program - please welcome Miss Stacey Dash!" the comedian said. Rocking a bedazzled white dress, the "Clueless" alum said while giggling, "I cannot wait to help my people out - Happy Black History Month!"

Most of the audience at the Dolby Theatre looked confused while some others uttered a few laughs. Viewers at home took to Twitter to question her presence at the awards event, but Dash quickly responded to this by sharing on Twitter a prewritten blog post titled "Who is Stacey Dash and why did she just walk across the #Oscar stage?" to address the awkward moment.

"You might be watching the Oscars and wondering why someone named Stacey Dash just walked across the stage," she began. "We need to stop complaining about white people oppressing us," wrote Dash, explaining why she spoke out against Black History Month and #OscarsSoWhite. "We shouldn't boycott the Oscars, and we need to support Chris Rock the host."

She continued, "Which brings me to the joke. When they added ME to increase the diversity, I'm sure many black people rolled their eyes. I'm not 'black enough,' they say. But guess what? I've heard that all my life. I would rather be a free thinking, black [sic] than a cookie cutter black who thinks - and votes - just like all my friends."
