J. J. Abrams: 'Star Wars' Will Someday Feature Gay Character

The 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' director thinks it's very possible that the 'Star Wars' franchise will include a homosexual character in future movies.

AceShowbiz - A gay character will be soon coming to "Star Wars" world, according to J. J. Abrams. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director always wants his movies to "look the way the world looks," so he thinks it's possible that the sci-fi film franchise will feature a homosexual character in the next installments.

"When I talk about inclusivity its not excluding gay characters, it's about inclusivity so of course," he said at the US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday, February 25. "To me the fun of 'Star Wars' is exploring the possibilities, so it seems insanely narrow minded to say that there wouldn't be a homosexual character in that world."

Abrams, who is not back at the helm for "Star Wars Episode VIII" but is still involved as an executive producer, tried to reflect today's diversity in "The Force Awakens". Thus, he hired both a female (Daisy Ridley) and a person of color (John Boyega) as the new leads in the movie.

"Writing this script with Larry Kasdan, I didn't know what Rey was going to look like, I didn't know what Finn or Poe would look like," he once told Entertainment Weekly. "I just knew that this movie needed to look the way the world looks."
