The 1975's Matt Healy Slams One Direction, Questions Their 'Artistic Credibility'

The 1975 vocalist revealed that he's not happy when 1D played him their song 'Change Your Ticket' that he thought was too similar to his own band's 'Girls'.

AceShowbiz - Matt Healy may kiss a Harry Styles cardboard cutout in The 1975's "Love Me" music video and do a cover of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful", but it doesn't mean he's a Directioner. In a new SPIN interview, he shocked fans a little bit when he made some indecent comments about the boyband.

Healy told the publication that he was brought in to write a song with 1D for their "Four" album. "They didn't seem to be actually that interested; they just wanted to play me this song that they said was really, really inspired by us," Healy recalled.

The song he was referring to was "Change Your Ticket", which according to Healy sounded very similar to his own band's "Girls". Due to the similarity, he asked 1D to make some changes to their track. " 'Listen guys, fill your boots, the song doesn't sound that much like 'Girls'. But the guitar and the whole vibe of it is a complete lift. So take the guitars off, and we're good,' " he told Harry Styles and Co.

1D initially agreed to comply with Healy, but the unchanged version of "Change Your Ticket" ended up making the cut anyway to the deluxe edition of "Four". He wasn't happy about it, not because he wasn't credited, but because 1D failed to make it clear that he didn't contribute to the track at all. "It would have been a bad 1975 song," he explained.

When the interviewer pointed out that 1D's latest album "Made in the A.M." was also heavily inspired by other pop artists, Healy responded, "Oh, well... they're four guys who queued up outside an arena to sing in front of Simon Cowell. Do they really have any artistic credibility? That sounds like a mean thing to say, but it's a good question. Like, do they?"

In the same Spin interview, Healy also addressed rumors that he dated Taylor Swift in late 2014. "God bless Taylor Swift... But I couldn't live that life. I couldn't be that famous," he said.
