The 'Revenant' actor and Pope Francis talk about their shared concerns over climate change during their private meeting.

AceShowbiz - Leonardo DiCaprio had a private meeting with Pope Francis at Vatican on Thursday, January 28. "Your Holiness, thank you for granting me this private audience with you," the Oscar-nominated actor said in Italian as he kissed the pope's ring.

"Their conversation focused on how they can work together to address the immediate need for major action to stop the devastating impacts of climate change from leaving permanent scars on our planet," a representative for the Vatican shared.

According to The Associated Press, the Hollywood star was accompanied by his father, George DiCaprio, and his chairman's foundation, Milutin Gatsby. He gave the pope a book of art by the 15th-century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch and presented a check for the pontiff to use for charity works "close to your heart."

Leonardo DiCaprio is known for his efforts to educate public about climate change. Meanwhile, Pope Francis released an encyclical Laudato Si (Praise Be) last year to urge world leaders to join hands solving some of today's most-pressing environmental issues. The pope gave Leo a leather-bound copy of Laudato Si and his earlier document, "The Joy of the Gospel."
