The 34-year-old actress will play Martha Wayne whose death led to the her son's transformation to the Caped Crusader.

AceShowbiz - Lauren Cohan has been gaining on her momentum in Hollywood ever since she starred on AMC's hit "The Walking Dead". The actress is now cast for a role in Warner Bros. Studios' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as Bruce Wayne's mother Martha.

Cohan's role in the potential blockbuster may be small but important. In the DC comics, Martha Wayne came from a wealthy family and attended many social gatherings and charities. She eventually married Dr. Thomas Wayne and gave birth to Bruce. Her and Thomas' deaths prompted their son to become an avenger as Batman.

The inclusion of Martha in the Zack Snyder-directed movie leads to speculation that there will be a portion of Batman's origin story. Ben Affleck, who plays Batman, said Wayne's engulfed in anger which is rooted from his loss of parents. "He's on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it," Affleck told EW. "But this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical."

"Batman v Superman", which hits theaters March 25, will also serve as an introduction to other superheroes such as Aquaman, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Cohan most recently stars as the main character in horror flick "The Boy (2016)" which is currently playing in theaters. She is also cast in a key role in Tupac Shakur's biopic as Leila Steinberg.
