The Tina Fey-produced comedy is renewed for a third season by Netflix, months before the second season premieres.

AceShowbiz - "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" has become a major force on Netflix. The sleeper hit created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock has been renewed for a third season by the streaming service, after the surprisingly positive responses for the inaugural season.

The news came just before the show's panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena on Sunday, January 17, during which Netflix announced the premiere date for the second season, April 15.

Also at the panel, Ellie Kemper who plays the title character, a woman who starts a new life in a modern New York after living underground in an apocalypse cult for years, shared what to expect in the second installment. "She grapples with some pretty heavy life stuff in this season," she said.

Kemper added that her relationship with her nanny Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) would shake up now that Jacqueline is out of a husband and a cashflow. "The employer-employee relationship is sort of muddied a little bit because these two are friends. Their dynamic changes a little bit," the actress revealed. Fey, who was also at the panel, added, "She starts to convince her she should probably be doing a lot of this stuff as [her] friend, to save money."

As for Jacqueline, "she's trying to learn what her life is now that she's no longer Mrs. Voorhies. Now she's Jacqueline White, and trying to stand on her own two feet," Krakowski teased. She further shared, "I think she really does have a greater understanding of what the world is about by the end of the season." Fey chimed in, "She's sort of on a mission to help her family and realizes that the best way to do that is not necessarily going back and trying to live with them but by trying some other stuff."

Fey herself confirmed she would return as prosecutor Marcia. Meanwhile, Kimmy's roommate Titus (Titus Andromedon) will find success with his one-man show, but "he is far, far away from the type of fame that he think he's deserving," said Burgess.
