The second season of 'Scream Queens' will be set in a hospital and bring back some of the actors from the first season.

AceShowbiz - FOX has renewed "Scream Queens" and "Empire". Following its much-buzzed-about first season, the horror comedy anthology series from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan has got a second season order. The Lee Daniels-co-created music drama, meanwhile, will return for a third season.

FOX announced the renewals at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Friday, January 15. Sharing some details of the new installment of "Scream Queens", co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman said, "It's going to take place in a hospital and explore some of the most interesting medical fascinomas. This is something Ryan Murphy loves and had a lot of fun with on 'Nip/Tuck', and he, Brad and Ian are going to infuse that sensibility on 'Scream Queens'."

Though so, Newman claimed that it wouldn't be "anything like '[American Horror Story:] Asylum', which was set in a period," since "the medical is an incredibly rich area to tell stories in."

Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden confirmed that some of the original cast from the first season would return for the new chapter. "Ryan intends to bring some of the actors back from the first installment. I believe they will be in the same characters," she said.

However, it's currently unknown which stars would return as Newman added, "It really hasn't been decided who's coming back and how many of them will be playing their old characters. Ryan and Brad and Ian are actually working right now on that. We'll actually be sitting together quite soon and getting their take on it. Our instinct is that at least a few of those characters will be back as the same actors playing the same roles, but it it will be anthological in that there will be a time jump and they'll be in a different setting."

Lea Michele and Emma Roberts have previously expressed interest to reprise their roles as Hester and Chanel respectively.

"Empire", meanwhile, will return for the remainder of its second season starting Wednesday, March 30 at 9/8c.
