'Wonder Woman' Casts Connie Nielsen as Diana Prince's Mother

The 50-year-old actress will play Wonder Woman's mother and the queen of the Amazons, joining the likes of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the upcoming movie.

AceShowbiz - Connie Nielsen has joined the cast of "Wonder Woman". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Danish actress will portray Hippolyta, the ruler of the Amazons and the titular hero's mother.

Connie will join the likes of Gal Gadot, who portrays Diana Prince, and Chris Pine, who plays Diana's love interest Steve Trevor, along with Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston and Ewen Bremner. The movie is currently shooting in the U.K. and Italy and will be released in theaters across the nation on June 23, 2017.

Set during World War I, "Wonder Woman" reportedly centers on Diana who becomes emissary to civilization in her home of Paradise Island in the 1920s. It also follows her journey as Steve brings her outside the island.

Best known for her performance in "Gladiator", Connie is no stranger to playing a queen. She played a Roman queen in the historical drama film which also starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Connie's recent credits include the Kevin Bacon crime drama "The Following" and "The Good Wife". She also appeared in 2013's "Nymphomaniac".
