'Alien: Covenant' Aims for 'Pretty Hard R' Rating
Movie

According to director Ridley Scott, the sequel to 'Prometheus' will have a 'pretty hard R' rating and it will be 'pretty tough.'

AceShowbiz - It may not be surprising if "Alien: Covenant" is rated R, considering the fact that almost all movies in the franchise including "Prometheus" carried the same rating. While preparing for production in Australia, director Ridley Scott hinted that "Covenant" would be "pretty hard R."

"I'm going to do pretty hard R, pretty tough," Scott revealed. The reason why the movie is rated R may be the same with its movie predecessors, which earned an R rating based mostly on violence and intense situations.

Previously at the Golden Globes backstage interview, Scott had shared some information regarding the movie's tone which made it earn that restricted rating. "I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing ['Alien']," Scott recalled. "I couldn't sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was... I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I'm going to try and do that again this year, but much worse."

Serving as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with "Prometheus" and connects directly to Scott's original "Alien", "Covenant" focuses on the crew members of colony ship Covenant discovering "what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

Michael Fassbender is back to reprise his role as the android David while Noomi Rapace returns in a minor part. The Alien movie is scheduled to be released in North America on October 6, 2017.
