The first official photo of the musical drama gives a first glimpse of Stone and Gosling's characters as they perform a romantic dance move beneath a twilight sky.

AceShowbiz - Lionsgate Films has released the first official photo of Damien Chazelle's musical "La La Land", giving a look at Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in the upcoming movie. The "Crazy, Stupid, Love." co-stars are seen making an amazing move as they dance atop a building with gorgeous L.A. sunset as the background.

Stone plays an aspiring actress, Mia, who's lonely and desperate to fit in, while Gosling stars as charismatic jazz pianist Sebastian. The two use dance to tell their romantic love story in the musical drama. "There's an incredible romanticism in L.A. that you don't always see when you're stuck in traffic on the 405," said Chazelle, who filmed the dance scene in Griffith Park back in September.

"I wanted to make a big love letter to the city and focus on that push and pull that all young artists experience, between dreams and reality, which old Hollywood musicals are so good at expressing," he shared, before explaining that Los Angeles was such a perfect city to tell the story of the two artists. "I just love the idea of a whole emotional arc told purely visually and musically. And it's a city that's so filled with dreamers, most of whom won't make it. I think there's something poetic about that."

The director also revealed that the romantic scene was inspired by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers' now infamous dance sequences which appeared in 1935's "Top Hat".

"La La Land" reunites Chazelle with "Whiplash" actor J.K. Simmons, who has a small role as someone in the life of Gosling's character. Rosemarie DeWitt, John Legend, Finn Wittrock, Sonoya Mizuno and Meagen Fay are also in the cast. The musical drama is scheduled to be released stateside on July 15, 2016.
