James Franco to Produce 'Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?' TV Remake

After 20 years, the cult classic starring Tori Spelling will be given a new story and aired on Lifetime.

AceShowbiz - Together with Lifetime, James Franco is set to remake NBC's 1996 telepic "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?". The cable network announced on Monday, December 21 that Franco would serve as an executive producer along with Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno.

The critically-panned cult classic starred Tori Spelling as a young girl who has a dream boyfriend, played by Ivan Sergei, but is concerned about his obsession of her. Franco will give a new story to be penned by Amber Coney. Melanie Aitkenhead is directing the TV movie hailed from Sony Pictures Television and Rabbit Bandini Productions.

The remake will air on Lifetime sometime next year to coincide the TV movie's 20th anniversary. It is yet clear whether Franco will appear in front of the camera since no casting has been announced. Sergei has expressed interest in getting involved in the remake, tweeting, "Al[sic] I can say is... I'm in."

The remake was originally meant for stage adaptation but the project did not find a distributor.
