Did 'Homeland' Just Kill a Major Character? Read Fans' Reactions to Emotional Finale
TV

The Showtime thriller leaves a character's fate up in the air after a heartbreaking love confession at the end of the fifth season.

AceShowbiz - Did it happen again to Carrie? "Homeland" killed off her boyfriend Brody (Damian Lewis) at the end of season 3, and Carrie (Claire Danes) may lose another man who loved her in the fifth season finale that aired Sunday night, December 20.

After a long question of will they or won't they, [SPOILER ALERT!] the last glimmer of hope that Carrie and Quinn (Rupert Friend) would be together appears to die with the apparent death of Quinn himself. The character suffered a brain hemorrhage and doctors said he would not recover.

Carrie said her goodbye to him and read a note from him, in which he confessed about his true feelings for her. "Carrie... I guess I'm done and we never happened," Quinn wrote. "I wasn't allowed a real life or real love. That was for normal people." He added, "With you, I thought maybe, just maybe. But I know now that was only a false glimmer." The note ended with "I loved you. Yours, for always now, Quinn."

So, did Carrie pull the plug and let him die in peace? That's the question remains to be answered until the show returns with a season 6 next year. But those last scenes were enough to trigger fans' reactions to Quinn's fate.

Laura Liberio tweeted, "@SHO_Homeland did you let Quinn die because you thought it was time or did Rupert want to go? Honestly, he's the best spy on TV! #Homeland." Michelle Gochett wrote, "I loved Quinn aka @rupertfriend so much. The most flawed, complicated characters are the most lovable."

Clearly sad upon watching the season finale, Zach posted on Twitter, "Take me instead of Quinn." Tara Adamski simply wrote, "Nooooooo Quinn." Mackenzie Lawn added, "Don't do this to me @SHO_Homeland. Not Quinn."

While many sang praises for the emotional season finale, some others were not pleased with how the fifth season ended. Jason Puckett sounded off his disappointment, "C'mon #Homeland ...2 years in a row with a terrible ending." Laxman Anishetty commented, "Disappointing Finale of #Homeland Season 5," but added, "Over all A Very Good Season."
