The 35-year-old actor has signed up to play a key character named Daniels in the sequel to 2012's 'Prometheus'.

AceShowbiz - Katherine Waterston has signed up to star in Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant", joining previously-confirmed actor Michael Fassbender. The 35-year-old actress will play Daniels, the role Rebecca Ferguson had been rumored for.

Plot details are still scarce, but it is believed to follow the crew members of colony ship Covenant discovering "what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David (Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition." Noomi Rapace will also be back as Elizabeth in a minor part.

Serving as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with "Prometheus" and connects directly to Scott's original "Alien", "Covenant" is expected to start shooting in early 2016 in Australia. Scott will also produce along with Walter Hill and David Giler. The movie is slated to be released in North America on October 6, 2017.

This summer, Waterston appeared in "Steve Jobs" as the late Apple co-founder's ex-girlfriend and the mother to his daughter. She will next be seen alongside Eddie Redmayne in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
