David Bruckner and Nick Antosca React to Being Tossed Off 'Friday the 13th'
Movie

'Prisoners' scribe Aaron Guzikowski is brought in to write a new draft for the horror movie and take the project into a modern world.

AceShowbiz - "Friday the 13th (2017)" is experiencing both a setback and a development. Director David Bruckner, who has been in the project for a year, left because there's a whole lot of new changes made including having a new writer.

Despite Bruckner's exit, it's a huge gain for the horror pic to land "Prisoners" scribe Aaron Guzikowski. There is no plot details yet. Nick Antosca, who was the first to work on the script, would take viewers back to the '80s when Jason Voorhees was terrorizing campers. However, Bloody-Disgusting said exec producers want modern take of the classic film and told Guzikowski to rewrite.

Regarding the reason of Bruckner's exit, The Wrap reported that producers felt it wasn't fair for him to wait around while they develop another script. Both Antosca and Bruckner had addressed the situation via Twitter. "My F13 draft getting tossed=biggest disappointment of my career. B/c writing it/working w @bruckmachina & PD [Platinum Dunes]=one of the funnest experiences," Antosca wrote.

Bruckner linked the The Wrap story and wrote, "Now this out. So it goes. Open to new possibilities." Nevertheless, he was happy for the new writer, tweeting "Congrats to Guzikowski. I have a lot of respect for PRISONERS. Excited to see what he and PD can do for Jason." He also noted that Antosca "wrote a hell of a draft. Piece was period but story and character took a modern leap. Perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation."

Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce along with Michael Bay. The film was initially planned for a 2013 release but it got delayed several times and snagged the Friday, January 13, 2017 slot at the end.
