The Russo Brothers Reveal a Lot of Things About 'Captain America: Civil War'
Movie

Directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo reveal a lot of things fans can expect from the upcoming movie which appears to be a blend of actions and emotions.

AceShowbiz - Following the debut of "Captain America: Civil War" first trailer, director Joe Russo and Anthony Russo spoke to Empire to give a breakdown of the trailer. In the process, Russo brothers explained a lot of things fans could expect from the upcoming superhero movie.

In the trailer, there is a glimpse of William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross. The directing duo revealed that the character would be a little bit different from what people thought. "Now he's become much savvier and more political and has put himself in a position of power, not unlike a Colin Powell. He's cornering the Avengers politically now, he's out-manoeuvring them," Joe said.

The director also explained how "Civil War" would be different from Mark Millar's original comic books. He said that there were some aspects in the comic books that weren't applicable to the story they built up to this point. "The challenge was, we're doing the story of 'Civil War' which everybody knows is nominally about superhero registration," Joe said.

"And in a lot of ways that can be a political issue, and we didn't want the conflict of the movie to solely exist on that level. We wanted to figure out very personal reasons why everyone's relationship to this idea of registration is going to become complicated," he added.

Since both of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) are the members of the Avengers, fans may confuse who is right and who is wrong. However, Joe hinted that there would be no right or wrong in the movie. "When people leave the theatre, they're going to be arguing about who was right in the movie, whether it was Tony, or whether it was Cap," he said.

"Tony has a very legitimate argument in the movie that's a very adult point of view, about culpability, about the Avengers' responsibility to the world, and the world's right to have some sort of control over the Avengers. It's a very complicated emotional arc for Tony Stark in this movie," he added.

He later said that the movie would be emotional, referencing the scene in the trailer when Tony says "so was I" after the Cap declares that Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is his friend. "The movie's extremely emotional. It hinges on that emotion, and on a very personal level we didn't want the movie to become about politics and people arguing about platitudes. The third act is built around a very personal moment between these characters," Joe said.

Joe continued explaining that the film would address the relationship between Natasha Romanov (Scarlett Johansson) and Steve Rogers. "We thought it would be interesting to take that relationship that was so strong in 'Winter Soldier', and test it," he said. "It's a great position to put Natasha in in this movie. In a way, her head is with Tony's side of things, but her heart is with Cap in a lot of ways. It's a really awesome spot for her as a character in the film."

Picking up where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, "Civil War" also stars Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Don Cheadle as War Machine. The superhero team-up movie will arrive in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.
