The medical drama easily wins in its Wednesday night time slot and is one of the few performing freshman series this fall.

AceShowbiz - Slowly but surely, "Code Black" is gaining CBS' trust. The Eye has ordered five additional episodes of the medical drama, giving the first season a total of 18 episodes.

The series, starring Marcia Gay Harden and Bonnie Somerville, is a heart-pounding medical drama that takes place in the busiest ER in the nation, where the staggering influx of patients can outweigh the limited resources available to the extraordinary doctors and nurses whose job is to treat them all - creating a condition known as Code Black.

Although it was never a stellar performer, "Code Black" is one of the steadiest freshman series this year. The October premiere accumulated 8.5 million viewers and a 1.5 in the adults 18-49 demo. The latest outing gave the series' second best rating with 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.59 million viewers. It easily won in its Wednesday 10 P.M. ET slot.

CBS gave "Code Black" six additional episode order last month, signaling faith in the series. At the same time, the network gave fellow newbie "Limitless" a full 22-episode season order.
