AceShowbiz - "Murder in the First" is returning for another season. TNT has officially ordered a third season of the crime drama starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson which wrapped its second season on August 24.
Averaging a modest 2 million viewers in its second season, the show was on the bubble as TNT and TBS boss Kevin Reilly aims for more edgier shows. The decision to renew the serialized drama came before the cast's option ran out at year's end.
The show which tracks one case for an entire season is a departure from TNT's procedural formula. The third season will bow in 2016. It joins "Rizzoli & Isles" and "The Last Ship" which were also renewed for next year.
