The 'Doctor Strange' actor receives a Commander of the Order honor from the British Empire.

AceShowbiz - Benedict Cumberbatch was honored for his work as an actor and humanitarian during a ceremony at the Buckingham Palace. The Sherlock Holmes depicter received a Commander of the Order of the British Empire award from Queen Elizabeth II.

The actor was accompanied by his wife Sophie Hunter at the event. "It's fantastic, it's quite nerve-wracking, there is nothing really that prepares you for it," he told BBC. "It's a unique occasion and I feel very privileged to be here and flattered to be recognized in this way."

"[Her Majesty] asked me what I was doing at the moment, and I told her I had finished a three month run at the Barbican, which she knew of," he added. "And I told her I had just got back last night from filming in Nepal, Doctor Strange for Marvel, then I'll be going straight into the fourth series of Sherlock. She said: 'Oh, it never stops does it?' "

Cumberbatch also recalled his reaction when receiving the letter from the palace, "I thought there had been a mistake. I thought someone had got something wrong."
