The upcoming 13-episode series will center on Van Helsing's daughter Vanessa.

AceShowbiz - Syfy has acquired female "Van Helsing" series from Nomadic Pictures with writer Neil LaBute as showrunner. The 13-episode series will begin production in January 2016 in Vancouver, Canada for a fall 2016 premiere. It focuses on Van Helsing's daughter Vanessa.
In the series, Vanessa is resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanity's last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.
Neil is exec producing the series along with Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev of Nomadic Pictures, Simon Barry of Continuum, Evan Tyler of Industry Works, Dave Brown of Echo Lake Entertainment and Daniel March of Dynamic.
Neil said in a statement, "I am extremely excited to be working with Syfy and Nomadic Pictures to create a unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories. This is a wonderful chance for us to forge great stories and unforgettable characters and throw them into a world where the stakes - both dramatic and personal - are tremendously high."
The series will be distributed in the U.S. by Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television and in Canada by Nomadic Pictures. Dynamic Television will also handle international distribution.
Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures, said in a statement, " 'Van Helsing' represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival."
